Developing Mobility

About

The European Center for Urban Mobility Research is a pan-continental NGO that is attempting to bring modern, futuristic mobility solutions to developing cities.

We are investigating the current examples of "first and last mile" transportation methods in many of the largest Western urban environments, alongside research into the potential opportunites for utilising such technologies in less-developed environments.

With an emphasis on environmental friendliness and sustainability, our evaluations and recommendations strive towards delivering the most appropriate future means of getting around the cities of tomorrow, today.

Our Work

At the European Center for Urban Mobility Research, our focus is on providing data-driven answers to the question of urban mobility. We obtain solid research and investigations directy from site, combined with rigorous analysis in order to recommend appropriate and viable solutions for developing mass transit.

Research: Through direct observation of travel habits and communication with commuters and transport providers we are able to build a complete and accurate picture of the needs and requirements of the local transportation.

Analysis: A comparitive analysis draws insights from existing transit solutions found in both developed and developing contexts, with an aim to identifying similarities and differences in local resources, infrasturctures and cultural behaviours.

Development: Applying such insghts can assist in developing a crossover model that combines direct implementation of modern best practices in a local setting, without the need for the iterative progression of an established transportation network.

Projects

All of our research considers challenges including local infrastructure, relative economics, political and cultural expectations; against the effectiveness of existing solutions and any potential barriers to entry.

We are currently examining the most suitable methods of implementing sustainable mass-transport solutions in the following project locations.

Bucharest, Romania
Romania
Valletta, Malta
Malta
Kinshasa, DR Congo
DR Congo
Lusaka, Zambia
Zambia

Team

Our leadership team draws upon the skills of a multinational group from a wide range of backgrounds with expertise in project management, international development, data mapping and donor liason. In addition to our core members, we work closely with a group of freelance partners located in cities around the world to ensure each project we work on has the necessary team to make it a success.

The European Center for Urban Mobility Research was founded by Stefan Becker in 2015 to provide information and analysis on urban transport to developing countries. Stefan and the team have extensive and relevant experience in both the subjects of international development and mobility, as well as combining these two subject areas.

We aim to build bridges, metaphorically and sometimes literally.
